GE commissions 180 MW hydro project in Bajoli

6 Jul 2022 , 01:47 PM

The 180 MW Bajoli Holi Project in Himachal Pradesh has been put into operation by GE Renewable Energy’s hydropower division, which is a division of GE Power India Ltd (GEPIL). Since the project’s connection to the grid in March 2022, three units of 60 MW each have been producing power, according to a company statement.

The 180 MW run-of-the-river power plant, which features a head race tunnel longer than 16 km, was built on the Ravi River in the Himachal Pradesh district of Chamba.

“The GE Hydro Solutions team deserves praise for the enormous amount of effort they put in to commission all three units within 11 days of water availability while upholding all quality and safety standards. To develop our shared goal, we anticipate working with GE in similar and even more fruitful relationships “Sanjay Barde, CEO of GMR Energy, remarked.

According to the statement, the project’s completion is a step toward leveraging the state’s energy resources to serve both Himachal Pradesh and the entire northern area of India.

According to Brian Selby, Regional General Manager, Asia, China & India at GE Renewable Energy Hydro Solutions, “Despite lockdown restrictions in the past year, the site team persevered and continued the erection and commissioning activities by diligently monitoring and implementing preventative measures and administrative controls.”

In March 2015, the Bajoli Holi Project received funding.

94% of the electricity needed by the Delhi International Airport Limited is produced by the Bajoli Holi Hydropower Plant, with the other 6% coming from on-site solar power plants.

The Bajoli Holi Hydropower Plant’s engineering and manufacturing provider, GE Hydro Solutions, said in a statement that it worked with the client, GMR, to overcome obstacles during the project’s execution and delivered a full suite of high-quality, dependable hydropower equipment.
