According to a news statement from the government, the goal is to increase the proportion of natural gas in the energy mix from the current 6.3 percent to 15 percent by 2030.
Rameswar Teli, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that numerous measures have been done in this regard.
The creation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and the provision of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections are both aspects of the growth of the CGD network, and both activities are carried out by firms approved by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). According to the schedules periodically set by PNGRB, approved firms are providing the CNG Stations and PNG connections.
As of May 31, 2022, the authorised organisations have installed 4531 CNG (Transport) stations and delivered 95.21 lakh PNG (Domestic) connections, according to information provided by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. 295 Geographical Areas (GAs) have been allowed following the completion of the 11A City Gas Distribution (CGD) round, which includes coverage of 98 percent of India’s population and 88 percent of its GAs.
