HUL Forges Strategic Partnership with Brookfield to Set Up Solar Energy Park, Advancing Net Zero Goals

4 Dec 2023 , 09:59 AM

In a significant step towards achieving its ambitious net-zero carbon emissions target, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), a leading consumer goods company in India, has announced a strategic partnership with Brookfield, a global alternative asset manager with a leading renewable power platform.

The partnership will involve the establishment of a 45 MW solar energy park in Rajasthan, India. This project will play a crucial role in HUL’s transition towards renewable energy sources and will contribute substantially to its net-zero commitment.

HUL aims to achieve net-zero emissions for all its products, from sourcing to the point of sale, by 2039. The company has been actively pursuing sustainability initiatives across its operations, including reducing energy consumption, adopting renewable energy sources, and minimizing waste generation.

The partnership with Brookfield will further accelerate HUL’s progress towards its net-zero goals. Brookfield’s expertise in renewable energy development and management will be instrumental in the successful implementation of the solar energy park project.

‘We are delighted to partner with Brookfield to establish this solar energy park,’ said [Name], CEO of HUL. ‘This project is a significant step towards achieving our net-zero commitment and underscores our dedication to sustainability. We are confident that this partnership will enable us to make a meaningful contribution to India’s renewable energy goals.’

‘We are excited to partner with HUL to develop this solar energy park,’ said [Name], Managing Director of Brookfield Renewable. ‘This project aligns with our commitment to investing in renewable energy projects that support sustainable development and decarbonization efforts.’

The solar energy park is expected to be commissioned in 2025 and will generate enough electricity to meet a significant portion of HUL’s energy requirements. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities in the region.

HUL’s partnership with Brookfield is a testament to the company’s leadership in sustainability and its commitment to creating a more sustainable future. The solar energy park project will not only reduce HUL’s carbon footprint but also contribute to India’s transition towards a renewable energy-based economy.
