One of India’s top telecom service providers, Bharti Airtel (‘Airtel’), today announced that it has partnered with IntelliSmart Infrastructure Private Limited, a top supplier of digital solutions and smart metering, to power up to 20 million smart metres. Along with cloud and analytics, this alliance also represents Airtel’s entry into high-end applications like advance metering infrastructure and metre data management systems. This is the biggest agreement of its kind in the nation for smart metres. It will have a major impact on Airtel’s rapidly expanding IoT deployment across industries.
Within its IoT offering, Airtel offers its in-house developed ‘Airtel IoT Hub’ platform, which will enable the utility to track and monitor these smart metres using sophisticated analytics while upholding telco-grade security and exceptionally high dependability. The IoT hub, which is housed on Airtel’s own cloud network, will give business users the capacity to seamlessly and extremely securely connect and manage billions of devices and apps.
As part of the AMI effort, the Government of India has set an ambitious goal to replace 250 million conventional metres with Smart Metres within the next five years. With its special powers, Airtel IoT hopes to be a key player in enabling this government objective.
