Domestic equity indices ended Wednesday’s session after hitting new highs in the intraday session. The domestic markets were mirroring an optimistic global market attitude and expectations of Fed rate hikes beginning early next year. Purchasing was seen across the board. All sectoral indicators advanced. Meanwhile, broader markets rallied with the Sensex and Nifty.
At closing, Sensex was at 72,016 points, up by 680 points. Nifty was 206 points higher at 21,647.
In today’s trade, the BSE Sensex crossed the 72,000 mark for the first time. While Nifty breached the 21,600 mark. Both the indices touched their new 52-week highs today.
On the sectoral front, all major sectoral indices closed in green. Nifty Oil & Gas ended marginally under pressure.
UltraTech Cement, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, JSW Steel, and Tata Motors emerged as the top gainers in today’s session. On the other hand, ONGC, NTPC, Adani Enterprises, Britannia, and UPL closed on the flipside.
The most active stocks in terms of value were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance, and Tata Motors.
A total of 187 stocks touched a new 52-week high in today’s trade, and only 13 stocks hit new 52-week lows.
