Indian Benchmark Indices Ends Lower Amid Volatility

On December 12, the Indian equity indices experienced volatility, resulting in Nifty closing around 20,900. The Sensex concluded the session down by 377.50 points or 0.54% at 69,551.03, while the Nifty declined by 90.70 points or 0.43%, closing at 20,906.40. Among the traded stocks, 1424 witnessed gains, 1822 declined, and 83 remained unchanged.

The major losers in this session included BPCL, Apollo Hospitals, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma, and Eicher Motors. On the positive side, HDFC Life, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Auto, SBI Life Insurance, and Axis Bank were among the gainers.

With the exception of the Metal sector, all other sectoral indices closed in the red, with capital goods, oil & gas, power, and realty experiencing a 1% decline each. The BSE midcap index recorded a 0.4% decrease, and the smallcap index fell by 0.2%.
