Domestic equity indices may open today’s session with muted numbers after a strong session yesterday. On Wednesday, markets closed in a sweet spot. BSE Sensex closed 690 points higher at 71,060. NSE Nifty ended with a gain of 215 points at 21,453.
On the global front, US markets closed in mixed trajectory. Dow Jones closed 99 points lower. Nasdaq Composite index ended with a gain of 56 points. S&P 500 closed in green.
Asian stocks are also trading cautiously, tracking the global markets. Chinese Shanghai Composite is trading 1.52% higher. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 0.18%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index is trading with a gain of 0.82%. South Korean Kospi index is trading 0.48% lower. Taiwan index is higher by 0.53%.
Hindalco, Dr Reddy’s, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, and HCL Tech emerged as the biggest gainers on Wednesday. On the other hand, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Asian Paints, Adani Ports, and Hero MotoCorp closed as the top laggards.
Oil prices surged on Thursday as data revealed that U.S. oil stocks fell more than expected last week, while the Chinese central bank’s reduction in banks’ reserve ratios fueled prospects for more stimulus measures and economic recovery.
The rupee remained range-bound on Wednesday, closing 3 paise higher at 83.12 versus the US dollar.
