Indian benchmark indices may start the week with positive numbers

12 Feb 2024 , 08:59 AM

Domestic equity indices may open today’s session on the greener side. On Friday, markets closed with modest gains. BSE Sensex ended 167 points higher at 71,595. NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 64 points at 21,782.

On the global front, US markets closed in mixed sentiments. Dow Jones closed 55 points lower. Nasdaq Composite closed 197 points higher. S&P 500 ended with a gain of 29 points.

Asian markets are trading in mixed cues tracking Wall Street. Chinese Shanghai Composite is trading 1.28% higher. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 0.09% higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index is trading with a decline of 0.83%. South Korean Kospi index is trading 0.41% higher. Taiwan index is trading with a gain of 0.20%.

On the nifty index, Grasim Industries, SBI, Apollo Hospital, Sun Pharma, and ICICI Bank ended as the top gainers. Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, ONGC, and Tata Steel emerged as the top laggards.

Oil prices dipped in early Asian trading on Monday as Israel announced that it had ‘concluded’ a series of attacks in southern Gaza, alleviating fears over Middle Eastern supplies.

The rupee fell 7 paise to 83.03 (provisional) versus the US dollar on Friday, mirroring a strong US dollar and rising crude oil prices in the international market.
