Indian equity markets may open with flat numbers

21 Nov 2023 , 08:54 AM

Indian benchmark indices may open today’s session with mostly flat numbers. Yesterday, markets settled in a negative territory. Sensex ended the session with a decline of 140 points at 65,655. Nifty 50 closed 38 points lower at 19,694.

On the global front, US markets closed higher on Monday. The gains were primarily led by NASDAQ’s 1% rally as Microsoft hit a new high. Dow Jones closed with a gain of 204 points. Nasdaq Composite ended 159 points higher. S&P 500 index closed with an uptick of 33 points.

Asian markets are trading with positive numbers in today’s early morning session. Chinese Shanghai Composite is trading 0.33% higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading higher by 0.85%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 0.15% lower. Taiwan index is trading with a gain of 1.14%. South Korean Kospi index is trading 0.88% higher.

Nifty Midcap 50 stocks closed marginally higher. Nifty Bank index closed flat.

Divis Lab, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, HCLTech, and Coal India closed as the top gainers. Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, SBI Life, and Ultratech Cement were the top laggards at closing.

Oil futures fell on Tuesday, erasing the previous day’s gains, as fears about lower demand amid a weakening global economy outweighed the likelihood of more production cutbacks by OPEC and its allies, including Russia.

On Monday, the rupee fell 12 paise to an all-time low of 83.38 versus the US dollar, tracking a downward trend in local markets.
