Indian equity markets start the year on a positive note

Indian equity markets started the year today on a positive note. Nifty 50 ended, up by 101.60 points. Sensex ended, up by 327.05 points. Top Gainers today were Tata Steel, Hindalco and ONGC. Top Losers today were Divi’s Lab, Asian Paint and Titan. 

Mid-cap and small-cap stocks saw good buying demand today. Metal stocks saw very strong buying demand. Pharma stocks, healthcare stocks, and consumer durable stocks saw some selling pressure today. Consumer durables stocks saw some profit-booking, given the high P/E ratio at which these stocks are trading.

Yes Bank, Tata Steel and Suzlon were the most active stocks today at NSE, in terms of volume. Tata Steel, Yes Bank and SAIL were the most active stocks in terms of value. 56 stocks touched 52-week high today at NSE. 25 stocks touched 52-week low.
