Ironically, due to technological advances, India’s healthcare sector experienced the biggest number of cyberattacks after the United States in 2021.
According to a report from cyber security intelligence firm CloudSEK obtained by PTI, “India reported the second greatest number of attacks, with a total of 7.7% of the total attacks on the healthcare business in 2021.”
According to the paper titled Increased cyber-attacks on the global healthcare sector, the US healthcare business was subject to 28% of all attacks worldwide.
The report stated that the Internet of Things (IoT), remote health monitoring, electronic health records, and other technological advancements in the healthcare industry gave cybercriminals more opportunities to attack the sector.
It also stated that the 7.7% incidence of cyberattacks on the Indian healthcare industry translates to over 71 lakh records.
According to the company, 1.87 lakh records have already been made in the first four months of 2022 in India.
