Indian benchmark indices are trading in green on Wednesday. At the time of writing, Sensex is up by 171 points (0.23%) at 74,124, and Nifty is up by 40 points (0.18%) at 22,569.
Market breadth was mixed: 1,628 shares advanced, 1,664 shares declined, and 101 shares remained unchanged. The broader market indices showed mixed performance, with the BSE MidCap down 0.25% and the BSE SmallCap up 0.12%.
On the Nifty 50, 23 out of 50 stocks traded in the red. Top laggards included Hindustan Unilever, Britannia Industries, Tata Consumer Products, Coal India, and Reliance Industries. BPCL, Hero MotoCorp, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises, Hindalco, and Sun Pharma were the top gainers.
On the BSE Sensex, 17 out of 30 stocks traded in the green. Leading decliners were SBI, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, and Mahindra & Mahindra, while top gainers included Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries, ITC, Infosys, and Asian Paints.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) net sold ₹1,874.54 Crore worth of shares, whereas domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹3,548.97 Crore on May 21, according to provisional NSE data.
