Indian benchmark indices showed upward momentum, with the Sensex rising by 693 points or 0.94% to reach 74,917, and the Nifty gaining 213 points or 0.95% to reach 22,811.
Market breadth was positive, with 1,642 shares advancing, 1,639 shares declining, and 111 shares remaining unchanged. The broader market indices also saw gains, with the BSE SmallCap climbing by 0.18% and the BSE MidCap gaining by 0.39%.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 11 were trading in the red, with Adani Enterprises, Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Eicher Motors, and SBI leading the gains, while Power Grid Corp., Sun Pharma, Hindalco Industries, Coal India, and Grasim Industries were the top losers.
Similarly, eight of the 30 stocks on the BSE Sensex were trading lower, with Power Grid Corp., Sun Pharma, JSW Steel, NTPC, and Tata Steel being the top losers, while Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, SBI, Infosys, and Wipro were the top gainers.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) net sold shares worth ₹686.04 Crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) infused ₹961.91 Crore into the market on May 23, according to provisional data from the NSE.
