Indian benchmark indices traded lower on Wednesday due to weak global cues. The Sensex dropped 499 points (0.67%) to 74,670, and the Nifty fell 124 points (0.54%) to 22,764.
Market breadth showed 1,514 shares advancing, 1,761 shares declining, and 95 shares remaining unchanged. The BSE Midcap index declined by 0.18%, while the Smallcap index rose by 0.30%.
Bank and Financial Services indices were the biggest losers, down over 1%. Other sectors like Auto, FMCG, IT, Oil & Gas, and Realty also traded in the red.
Out of the Nifty 50, 11 stocks were trading in the green. Top Nifty gainers included Hindalco Industries, Adani Enterprises, Nestle India, Power Grid Corp., and Sun Pharma. Top Nifty losers were SBI Life, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, and UltraTech Cement.
On the BSE Sensex, only four stocks (Sun Pharma, Nestle India, Power Grid Corp., and ITC) were in the green. ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank were the top Sensex losers.
Both FIIs and DIIs were net buyers on May 28; FIIs purchased equities worth ₹65.57 Crore, while DIIs bought equities worth ₹3,231.67 Crore.
