On April 9, Indian benchmark indices struggled to maintain record levels and closed with slight losses amidst a volatile trading session.
By the end of the day, the Sensex dropped by 58.80 points or 0.08% to reach 74,683.70, while the Nifty declined by 24.50 points or 0.11% to settle at 22,641.80. Market breadth was mixed with 1434 shares advancing, 2269 shares declining, and 100 shares remaining unchanged.
Key gainers included Apollo Hospitals, Hindalco Industries, ICICI Bank, Infosys, and Bajaj Finserv, while notable losers comprised Titan Company, Hero MotoCorp, Coal India, Reliance Industries, and Asian Paints.
Across sectors, media, auto, capital goods, and FMCG witnessed declines ranging from 0.5 to 1%, whereas metal and realty sectors saw gains of around 0.5% each.
Both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices concluded the session with negative movements.
