In the first three months of FY23, India’s exports of processed food and agricultural goods increased 14% year over year to $5.98 billion, according to a statement released on Sunday by the commerce and industry ministry.
During the same time of the prior fiscal, these items’ exports totaled $5.25 billion. According to the government, “of the overall $23.56 billion export objective for 2022—23, 25.4% (has been) reached in the first three months.” The $5.89 million export goal was set for April through June 2022—2023.
In the first quarter of 2022—23, exports of fresh fruits and vegetables increased by 8.6% while those of processed food items, such as cereals and other processed goods, increased by 36.4% year over year.
The ministry reported that exports of fresh fruits and vegetables grew from $642 million in April to June of 2021 to $697 million in the corresponding months of the current fiscal.
In the first three months of FY23, rice exports jumped by 13 %, while exports of meat, dairy, and poultry products rose by 9.5 % and other grain exports surged by 29 %.
In the first three months of the current fiscal, dairy exports totaled $1.12 billion, up from a million during the same period the previous year.
According to M. Angamuthu, chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, “We are aiming to sustain the growth in India’s agricultural and processed food exports in the current fiscal as well through creating a necessary eco-system of exports along with collaboration with key stakeholders in the agri-exports value chains” (APEDA).
India’s exports of agricultural goods increased by 19.92% to $50.21 billion in 2021—22.
