In October 2023, Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, recorded an increase of 31.59 lakh mobile users, while its competitor Bharti Airtel gained 3.52 lakh subscribers, according to the monthly subscriber data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
However, Vodafone Idea, the troubled telecom company, experienced no respite on the subscriber front, facing a loss of 20.44 lakh wireless subscribers in October. This decline in subscribers further adds to the challenges faced by the cash-strapped Vodafone Idea, which has been grappling with fundraising difficulties and ongoing losses.
Jio’s robust performance in October elevated its total wireless subscriber count to 45.23 crore, up from 44.92 crore in September. Meanwhile, Airtel, led by Sunil Mittal, saw a modest increase in wireless subscribers by 3.52 lakh, bringing its user tally to 37.81 crore in October.
In stark contrast, Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) witnessed a decline in its wireless user base, which dropped to 22.54 crore in October, as highlighted in the TRAI data. The struggles of VIL, both in terms of financial constraints and subscriber losses, continue to pose significant challenges for the company.
