Mahindra & Mahindra to Inspect XUV Range, Offers Rectification if needed

21 Aug 2023 , 11:56 AM

On August 18, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) announced its intention to inspect specific models within the XUV range, covering more than 1.08 lakh units of XUV700 and 3,560 units of XUV400. The inspection aims to identify and address any potential issues in the vehicles, with rectification performed if necessary.

XUV700 units to be examined were produced in the two-year period leading up to June, while the XUV400 vehicles slated for inspection were manufactured between February and June. The inspection specifically targets the wiring loom routing in the engine bay of 1,08,306 XUV700 units manufactured between June 8, 2021, and June 28, 2023. The concern involves the potential risk of abrasion cutting the wiring loom.

Additionally, 3,560 units of XUV400 vehicles manufactured from February 16, 2023, to June 5, 2023, will undergo inspection for ineffective spring return action of the brake potentiometer.

Mahindra’s actions align with the voluntary code on vehicle recall and emphasize its commitment to vehicle safety. The company assured that all customers will be contacted individually regarding the inspection and rectification process, which will be carried out free of charge. This development comes shortly after Mahindra reported record SUV domestic sales of 36,205 units in July, marking a 30 % increase compared to the same period last year.

Mahindra’s Q1 FY 2023-24 net profit surged by 98 % YoY, reaching Rs 2,774 crore. Strong SUV sales contributed to this notable growth. Notably, in December of the previous year, M&M recalled 6,618 Scorpio-N units and 12,566 XUV700 units assembled between July 1 and November 11, 2022. The recall was prompted by a sorting process error at the supplier’s plant that potentially affected the rubber bellow’s operating dimensional clearance within the bell housing.
