Indian equity indices closed lower for the fourth consecutive session on October 23, with the Nifty falling below 19,300.
At the closing bell, the Sensex dropped by 825.74 points, or 1.26%, ending at 64,571.88, and the Nifty fell by 260.90 points, or 1.34%, closing at 19,281.80. Among the shares traded, 497 advanced, 2893 declined, and 119 remained unchanged.
The notable decliners on the Nifty included LTIMindtree, Adani Enterprises, Hindalco Industries, Adani Ports, and UPL. In contrast, M&M and Bajaj Finance were among the gainers.
All the sectoral indices ended in negative territory, with Metal, Information Technology, Realty, Oil & Gas, Power, and Capital Goods sectors witnessing declines ranging from 2-3% each. Auto, Bank, FMCG, and Pharma sectors also saw losses, with declines ranging between 1-2%.
The BSE Midcap index experienced a drop of 2.5%, while the Smallcap Index declined by 4%, reflecting the overall negative sentiment in the market.
