The Sensex surged by 192.42 points or 0.26%, reaching 74,096.33, while the Nifty climbed by 50.20 points or 0.22%, standing at 22,503.50. Among the traded shares, 2549 advanced, 817 declined, and 69 remained unchanged.
Notably, the IT index rose by 1.16%, and the Media index by 1.38%, with the Consumer Durables index up by 0.61%, and the Oil & Gas index by 0.48%. However, the FMCG index experienced a decline of 0.34%, alongside the Auto index down by 0.29%, while the Realty index saw a significant decrease of 1.55%.
The broader market demonstrated strong performance, with the BSE SmallCap index rising by 1.11%, and the BSE MidCap index by 0.48%.
Top gainers included TCS, Shriram Finance, Divi’s Lab, Tech Mahindra, and Hindalco, whereas Nestle India, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Life, Adani Enterprises, and Britannia were among the top losers.
Among the Sensex stocks, 13 were in the green, with TCS, Tech Mahindra, HCLTech, Bharti Airtel, and HDFC Bank leading the gains, while Nestle India, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Maruti Suzuki India, and Larsen & Toubro weighed down the index.
On April 2, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹1,622.69 Crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹1,952.72 Crore, according to provisional data from the NSE.
