Indian benchmark indices experienced losses on Friday, retracting from their early gains. At the time of writing, Sensex was down by 967.05 points or 1.30%. It was at 73,644 level. Similarly, Nifty was down by 246.15 points or 1.09%.
The broader market exhibited substantial losses, with the BSE SmallCap index declining by 0.76%, and the BSE MidCap index by 0.43%.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, only 14 were in positive territory. Leading the gainers were Coal India, Bajaj Finance, ONGC, Grasim Industries, and Bajaj Finserv, while Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Nestle India, Bharti Airtel, and Maruti Suzuki India were among the top decliners.
Among the 30 stocks on the BSE Sensex, only four, namely Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, and ICICI Bank, recorded gains. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki India, Bharti Airtel, Nestle India, and Reliance Industries were the primary contributors to the index’s decline.
Provisional data from the NSE revealed that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers of shares worth ₹964.47 Crore, whereas Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) infused ₹1,352.44 Crore into the market on May 2.
