Market Update: Indian Benchmark Indices Trade Lower

Indian benchmark indices traded lower on Friday, with the Sensex declining by 240.68 points or 0.32% to 74,098.76, and the Nifty falling by 69.70 points or 0.31% to 22,500.60.  Among the listed shares, 1816 advanced, 1360 declined, and 92 remained unchanged.

At the time of writing, the broader market showed resilience, with the BSE MidCap index gaining 0.73% and the BSE SmallCap index rising by 0.89%.

Nearly half of the stocks on the Nifty 50 were in the red, with Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Shriram Finance, Nestle India, and IndusInd Bank among the top losers, while Tech Mahindra, LTI Mindtree, Divi’s Laboratories, Wipro, and Bajaj Auto emerged as the top gainers.

Similarly, half of the stocks on the Sensex also saw declines, with Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, IndusInd Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank leading the losses. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, HCL Tech, Power Grid Corp., and Hindustan Unilever were among the top gainers.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers of shares worth ₹2,823.33 Crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹6,167.56 Crore on April 25, according to provisional data from the NSE.
