Indian stock markets ended the day on a sluggish note today. Nifty 50 ended 99 points lower at 18,534. Sensex closed 347 points lower.
In today’s trade, IT and Pharma stocks witnessed buying. Asian markets witnessed a major downturn owing to dismaying March data released by China. Further, uncertainty over the US Congress deal approval has lowered the market sentiment.
Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Bank, SBI Life, and Sun Pharma were the top NSE gainers today. Among the top laggards were ONGC, NTPC, Axis Bank, Reliance, and HDFC.
Markets remained in the red territory throughout the day. Sensex crashed over 500 points. Nifty Metal, Bank and Financial Services pack dragged down the chart. In the last hour of trading, other major sectoral indices recovered losses to end the day with marginal gains. The Midcap 50 index closed in green.
Kotak Bank, HDFC, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank were the most active stocks in terms of value. In terms of volume, Kotak Bank, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, NTPC and Tata Steel were the most active stocks.
A total of 110 stocks hit their new 52-week highs on NSE today. 12 stocks tumbled to new 52-week lows.
