Markets end with substantial gains

Domestic equity markets ended today’s session with gains after rallying throughout the day with strong numbers. Nifty 50 closed 93 points higher. Sensex closed with a gain of 344 points after jumping over 500 points.

In today’s trade, markets were trading in green throughout the session boosted by strong earning releases and as investors eye US Fed’s monetary policy meeting.

Nifty PSU Bank, FMCG, and Realty stocks closed with about 1% upside. Auto index closed in negative territory, dragged down by Mahindra & Mahindra. All other indices ended the day on a positive note.

On the gainers’ pack, Larsen & Toubro was on top, followed by Cipla, ITC, Britannia, and Sun Pharma. Among the biggest losers in today’s session were Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra, Apollo Hospital, and Tech Mahindra.

Most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Motors, Tata Steel, ITC, NTPC, and ICICI Bank. HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finance, Reliance, and Larsen & Toubro were the top stocks in terms of value.

A total of 147 stocks touched new 52-week highs, and 15 stocks touched new 52-week lows in today’s intraday session.
