Markets may open in a positive sentiment today

22 Apr 2024 , 08:17 AM

Domestic equity indices may open today’s session on a positive side. On Friday, markets closed with heavy gains. BSE Sensex closed 599 points higher at 73,088. NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 152 points at 22,147.

On the global front, The Nasdaq and S&P 500 finished down owing to pressure from Netflix shares, but American Express lifted the Dow with its quarterly results report. Meanwhile, lingering pessimism about the Federal Reserve’s willingness to lower interest rates quickly led to a dampened market mood.

Dow Jones closed with a gain of 211 points. Nasdaq Composite index ended with a decline of 319 points. S&P 500 slipped by 44 points at the closing.

On Monday, Asian markets are trading in positive numbers. Chinese Shanghai Composite is trading with a gain of 0.19%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 0.85% higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was trading with a gain of 2.51%. South Korean Kospi index is seen with an upside of 1%. Taiwan index is trading 0.34% higher.

On the nifty index, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and JSW Steel closed as the top gainers on the chart on Friday. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto, Nestle India, Divis Lab, HCL Tech, and Larsen & Toubro closed as the biggest losers.

Oil prices fell at the start of Asia’s trading day on Monday, affected by a renewed focus on market fundamentals. This change happened as both Israel and Iran minimised the possibility of an escalation of hostilities in the Middle East following Israel’s relatively small strike against Iran.

Despite the decline in other regional currencies, the Indian rupee recovered from its initial losses and finished higher. This increasing trend was aided by anticipated intervention by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and dollar selling by foreign banks.
