Markets wrap up with gains

Domestic markets ended today’s session with gains after swinging between gains and losses. In the last hour of trading, markets edged up after falling in the morning and afternoon sessions. Nifty 50 closed 61 points higher. Sensex ended 261 points higher.

Sectoral indices Media and Pharma closed lower. All other indices recovered to register gains at the closing hour. Nifty Midcap 50 closed 0.67% higher.

Tata Motors, HCL Tech, Power Grid, HDFC Life, and Eicher Motors led the gainers today. Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, and BPCL emerged as the biggest losers.

On an individual stock basis, IndiGo rose about 3% on aircraft order. Timken India tumbled about 11% as parent company plans to pare stake. HDFC AMC surged ~13% as Abrdn pared its entire stake.

HDFC Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, and Kotak Bank were the most active stocks in terms of value. Tata Steel, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, SBI, and HDFC Life were the top stocks in volume terms.

A total of 116 stocks touched new52-week highs in today’s trade, and only 10 stocks dipped to their 52-week lows.
