Mother Dairy reduces price of Dhara Oil by Rs 15-20 per litre

5 May 2023 , 08:45 AM

Mother Dairy stated on Thursday that its edible oils supplied under the Dhara brand would have their maximum retail prices (MRP) reduced by Rs15-20 per litre, effective immediately.

The action is consistent with the drop in prices across the board. The stock with the revised MRP is anticipated to go on sale next week.

The decrease can also be ascribed to the food ministry’s directive to the organization representing the edible oil business, SEA, stressing the necessity of lowering the MRP of cooking oils.

‘With immediate effect, the MRP of Dhara edible oils is being decreased by Rs15-20 per litre across variants. Due to the diminished impact of foreign markets and the ease with which domestic crops are available, this reduction is mostly being made in varieties such as soyabean oil, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, and groundnut oil, a Mother Dairy spokesperson told PTI.

While the MRP of Dhara refined rice bran oil will now be Rs 170 per litre as opposed to Rs190 per litre earlier, the MRP of Dhara refined soyabean oil (1 litre poly pack) has been reduced from Rs170 to Rs150.

The MRP for Dhara refined sunflower oil has been reduced by the firm from Rs175 per litre to Rs160.

Dhara groundnut oil’s MRP has decreased from Rs255 per litre to Rs240.

Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA), a trade group for the edible oil sector, had recommended its members lower MRP in accordance with declining edible oil costs.

Under the ‘Mother Dairy’ brand, Mother Dairy manufactures, promotes, and sells milk and milk-related products, such as cultured products, ice cream, paneer, and ghee.

Under the ‘Dhara’ brand, the business sells edible oils; under the ‘Safal’ brand, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen vegetables and snacks, unpolished pulses, pulps and concentrates, etc.

There are numerous milk booths and Safal store locations in Delhi-NCR.

The cost of edible oil in the nation is frequently examined by the Department of Food and Public Distribution. Despite bumper crops of groundnut, soyabean and mustard, local prices have not decreased in line with the international market, the SEA had stated. Instead, they have fallen more slowly than the international market over the past six months, and especially over the past 60 days.

The prices of edible oil (MRP) in the domestic market seem to be on the higher side considering the current market scenario, the association said. ‘While most of the brands have reduced prices in the past, the current MRP of the packed edible oil in the market is not in line with the current prices as in the international market.’

The department had given SEA the go-ahead to alert members about lower MRP on edible oils and to pass the savings along to customers.
