Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA announced on Monday that they would invest $600 million in India to produce six new models.
According to a statement, the Japanese and French automakers will work on the projects from their Chennai base, transforming it into an export hub.
The six models, three of which will be produced by each automaker, will be built on shared platforms and exported, they said. The new models will include two electric vehicles, the first EVs to be introduced by Indian automakers, as well as four sports utility vehicles (SUVs).
Last week, the automakers unveiled details of their redesigned alliance, as well as new joint projects in Latin America, India, and Europe.
