The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced a change in the weekly expiry day for futures and options contracts of Bank Nifty indices. Starting September 4, 2023, the Bank Nifty’s weekly index options expiry day will be shifted from Thursday to Wednesday.
The first Wednesday weekly expiry is scheduled for September 6, 2023. The decision was made to avoid overlapping with the expiry of Sensex/Bankex F&O contracts relaunched by BSE in May 2023.
The change will not affect the trading cycle of Bank Nifty, which will continue to have four weekly expiration contracts, three monthly expiration contracts, and three quarterly expiries.
If a public holiday falls on a Wednesday, the expiry day will be moved to the previous trading day. The revised expiry days will be applicable to new weekly contracts created on or after September 1, 2023. The settlement schedule will be communicated separately by Clearing Corporations.
