NTPC Diversifies with Green Hydrogen, Eyes Clean Energy Leadership

26 Mar 2024 , 03:16 PM

NTPC’s subsidiary NGEL has entered into an agreement with the government of Andhra Pradesh to develop an integrated green hydrogen hub. The land lease agreement was signed between NGEL and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for the project near Pudimadaka village of Atchutapuram Mandal in Visakhapatnam district.

The Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Hub aims to establish a world-class ecosystem for technologies in the new energy paradigm, including electrolyser and fuel cell manufacturing, ancillary industries, startup incubation, testing facilities, and the production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol.

The project will feature India’s largest green hydrogen production facility with a capacity of 1200 tonnes per day, primarily serving various export markets. NTPC, India’s largest power utility, has a total installed capacity of 74 GW, including joint ventures and subsidiaries.

NGEL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has an operational capacity of over 3.4 GW and 26 GW in the pipeline, including 7 GW under implementation.

The shares of NTPC trading marginally lower on NSE at ₹343.35, 0.69% down from previous close.
