On December 23, 2022, ONGC offshore drilling rig ‘Sagar Samrat’ was commissioned as a Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU).
The Sagar Samrat MOPU will handle up to 20,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with a maximum export gas capacity of 2.36 million cubic metres per day, and is expected to add 6000 barrels of oil per day to ONGC’s production, in the coming days.
The first oil from the WO-16 cluster has entered the MOPU processing system, and dispatch to the onshore terminal began.
WO-16 is a cluster of four marginal fields in the Arabian Sea at a water depth of 75-80 m, 130 kilometres from Mumbai, and approximately 40 kilometres from the Mumbai High. Because there are no nearby facilities for producing from this field, it was planned to install a MOPU for producing, processing, and transporting oil and gas from the WO-16 Cluster.
On November 17, 2011, a consortium of Mercator Oil & Gas Ltd, Mercator Offshore (P) Ltd, and Gulf Piping Company (GPC) was awarded the project to convert the Jack-up rig Sagar Samrat into a MOPU.
The Sagar Samrat conversion project is one of ONGC’s most complex projects.
At around 11.23 AM, ONGC was trading at Rs149.50, down by 0.63% against the previous close of Rs150.45 on NSE. The counter touched an intraday high and low of Rs150.60 and Rs148 respectively.
