In preparation for its integration with the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) initiative, the digital payments business PhonePe is developing a comprehensive strategy to support its e-commerce objectives.
However, the financial company’s goals for internet commerce are nothing new. The company previously made an effort with products like Switch, which was loosely based on the idea of a super app, and Stores, which was designed to make it easier for customers to find local businesses.
Switch, which hosted several businesses across grocery, pharmacy, and food-delivery applications, experienced success with its travel booking business but had less success in other areas.
Despite the continued existence of PhonePe Switch and Stores, the Walmart-owned firm will introduce a new consumer-focused app by the end of the month. This app will be a part of the ONDC network, an effort by India to break the monopoly of Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart in the nation.
Customers will be able to pick from a variety of items from sellers using the buyer app from PhonePe. However, its name is currently a secret.
