The Ministry of Housing is considering extending the government’s premier urban housing program, Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban, till March 2024.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said the following in a written response on Thursday in the Lok Sabha: “Consideration is being given to a proposal that would extend the Mission through March 2024, with the goal of finishing all houses authorized under the scheme by March 31, 2022, all while maintaining the current funding structure and implementation strategy. For all verticals with the exception of the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme, a temporary extension of six months has been approved.”
Since June 25, 2015, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been carrying out the PMAY-U “Housing for All” mission, which aims to provide all eligible urban recipients with all-weather “pucca” homes through central aid to States and Union Territories (UTs).
Through the end of the Mission term, on March 31, 2022, a total of 122.69 lakh dwellings have been approved based on project proposals filed by States and UTs.
101.94 lakh homes have been approved for building, of which 61.15 lakh have been finished or given to recipients. A total of Rs2,03,427 crore in central aid has been authorized, of which Rs1,20,130 crore have been issued.
