The Indian rupee opened 34 paise lower against the US dollar on Friday due to the greenback’s broader strength after a positive US gross domestic product report. The local currency started the day at 82.27 against the dollar, lower than the previous close of 81.93.
Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, traded lower in the pre-opening session. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold Indian shares worth Rs 3,979.44 crore on Thursday, according to provisional data available on the exchanges. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) made net purchases of shares worth Rs 2,528.15 crore on the same day.
