The Indian rupee opened 11 paise higher against the US dollar on Monday, starting the day at 82.73 compared to Friday’s closing rate of 82.84. The dollar index saw a 0.4% decline on Friday, while Asian currencies began the new week on a positive note.
On Friday, the rupee ended 12 paise lower, reaching a more than two-month low level of 82.84 against the US dollar.
On the domestic front, the benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, were trading higher in the pre-opening session.
On Friday, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) net sold Indian shares worth Rs 556.32 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) net bought shares amounting to Rs 366.61 crore, according to provisional data available on the exchanges.
