The Indian rupee opened 7 paise higher against the US dollar on Thursday, following gains in Asian peers amid a weak US currency after the US Federal Reserve raised interest rates.
The local unit opened at 81.93, compared to the previous close of 82.00. On Wednesday, the rupee ended 13 paise lower at 82 against the dollar.
In the pre-opening session, the Indian benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, were trading higher. On Wednesday, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) net bought Indian shares worth Rs 922.84 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) net purchased shares worth Rs 470.10 crore, as per provisional data available on the exchanges.
