On October 31, the stock market experienced a volatile session resulting in the benchmark indices closing lower, with the Nifty falling below the 19,100 mark.
At the closing bell, the Sensex recorded a decline of 237.72 points, or 0.37 percent, ending at 63,874.93. Simultaneously, the Nifty fell by 61.30 points, or 0.32 percent, concluding at 19,079.60. Among the stocks traded, 1830 shares saw advances, 1675 witnessed declines, and 117 remained unchanged.
The major decliners on the Nifty were M&M, Sun Pharma, Eicher Motors, LTI Mindtree, and ONGC. Conversely, SBI Life Insurance, Titan Company, HDFC Life, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Asian Paints were among the gainers.
Except for the realty sector, all other sectoral indices closed in the red. Sectors such as auto, banking, and healthcare saw a decline of 0.3-0.6 percent.
In a slightly different trend, the BSE midcap index witnessed a 0.3 percent rise, while the smallcap index closed with marginal changes, ending almost flat.
