TPREL partners with SSMI to establish a 28.12-megawatt green energy plant in Maharashtra. The collaboration involves setting up a 28.125 MW AC (39.375 MWp) captive solar plant in Aachegaon, district Solapur, Maharashtra. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, signs the Power Delivery Agreement (PDA) through its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) TP Alpha Limited.
The solar plant aims to generate 61.875 million units (MUs) of electricity annually, fulfilling the energy requirements of SSMI’s steel manufacturing unit. The project’s environmental impact is significant, reducing SSMI’s carbon footprint by 42,534 tonnes annually.
The commissioning of the project is scheduled for March 2024, aligning with the strategic plan. The initiative supports SSMI’s commitment to climate change by promoting cleaner energy sources, decreasing reliance on fossil fuels, and fostering green steel manufacturing.
Ashish Khanna, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, highlights the benefits of such initiatives, including cost reduction, emissions reduction, improved energy security, and alignment with sustainability goals. Dilipkumar Pachpande, Managing Director of Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd, underscores the collaboration’s significance in contributing to clean energy solutions, sustainable development, and carbon neutrality objectives.
