Tata Power Green commissions 225 MW hybrid power project

4 Aug 2022 , 08:09 AM

A 225MW hybrid power plant in Rajasthan has been commissioned by Tata Power Green Energy Limited (TPGEL), a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Power, the firm announced yesterday.

To fulfil its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO), Tata Power’s mumbai distribution arm will receive the electricity produced by the project through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that is valid for 25 years.

The revised power supply portfolio for Mumbai’s customers would increase to 38 percent non-carbon power with the addition of 225 MW of hybrid power to Tata Power. The non-carbon supply will be close to 2,000 million units ( MUs) compared to the yearly requirement of over 5,200 MUs.

Tata Power’s CEO and MD, Praveer Sinha, stated: “The project would significantly strengthen Mumbai Discom’s non-carbon commitment while supplying power to their consumers and our Mumbai Discom. It also demonstrates our determination to employ non-carbon energy in order to achieve the nation’s clean and green energy targets.”

This is the first hybrid project created by Tata Power and consists of 96MW of current wind assets and 225MW of solar assets that were recently put into service at Noorsar. It is anticipated to provide 700 MUs of electricity annually.

Each year, the facility will offset about 700 million kg of CO2. In comparison to standalone wind or solar capacity, the combination of solar and wind projects offers the special benefit of a greater capacity utilization factor.

The project was given to TPGEL, and Tata Power Solar Systems Limited, an EPC division of Tata Power, completed the solar component of the project.

The project was completed on time and on a 1,200-acre plot of land in Noorsar, Rajasthan. The project made use of 103 unique wind energy producers and 5,79,488 units of modules from the company’s existing wind assets.

The commissioning of this hybrid project brings Tata Power’s total renewable energy capacity to 5,524 MW, including 1,665 MW under various phases of implementation and 3,859 MW installed.
