Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) selected by the Indian Government to revamp the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) for enhanced efficiency and transparency. GeM currently serves as an online marketplace for central and state government entities, handling a Gross Merchandize Value (GMV) of over 2 trillion.
TCS’ role involves designing a new solution leveraging modern technologies while maintaining the current platform. The new GeM platform will be based on e-commerce and e-marketplace principles with attributes like multi-tenancy, multi-rule, multilingual, open source, and open-API-based architecture.
The platform aims to accommodate a projected six-fold GMV growth over the next six years. Interoperability and cloud neutrality will be emphasized, ensuring technological adaptability and inclusivity for diverse buyer organizations.
TCS will also enhance the user experience, facilitating onboarding of new sellers, especially SMEs/MSMEs, for greater participation. The platform will use data analytics for projections and supply chain management and advanced AI/ML to identify potential fraud, enhancing transparency.
The partnership signifies a transformative step towards a more efficient and inclusive public procurement platform.
