The MoRTH ordered on Monday that all goods trucks used to transport hazardous or dangerous commodities must be fitted with a location tracking device. This rule is applicable to any vehicles built on or after September 1.
The Ministry of Transportation sent a notification noting that it has come to their attention that trucks delivering dangerous or hazardous commodities and gases like argon, nitrogen, oxygen, etc. that are not covered by a national permit do not have vehicle location tracking devices.
Accordingly, the ministry ordered that every vehicle of categories N2 and N3, manufactured on or after the first day of September 2022 for new models, and the first day of January 2023 for existing models, must be fitted with a vehicle tracking system device in accordance with Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 140, it said.
The N2 category includes any commercial motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of greater than 3.5 tonnes but less than 12 tonnes. The N3 vehicle category includes goods-carrying vehicles having a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 12 tonnes.
