Zomato starts its own UPI service

17 May 2023 , 01:43 AM

India’s top food delivery platform, Zomato has rolled out its own UPI (Unified Payments Interface) service in collaboration with ICICI Bank.

With this new service customers can now sign up to create a new UPI ID after which they will be able to make payments by staying on the Zomato app itself. The need not be redirected to another app like Google Pay, PhonePe, or others, as is the case for certain users currently.

With this service, Zomato is hopeful to provide seamless experience to its customers within the application. The Gurugram-based company received regulatory approvals earlier this year and then partnered with ICICI Bank, one of the largest private banks in the country, for the tech infrastructure required for Zomato UPI, as per the reports.

The food delivery company has introduce this service to reduce the dependency on external payment apps and minimize the usage of Cash on Delivery (COD) orders. Additionally, it will also affect the Paytm and Google Pay operations as Zomato UPI will not required KYC completion.
