Wipro wins 3-year IT infra services deal from Woodside
Wipro Limited, a leading global information technology, consulting, and business process services company, today announced that it has been awarded a three­ year IT infrastructure services and digital transformation contract by Woodside. Woodside is an Australian oil and gas company with a global presence, and is recognised for its world-class capabilities as an explorer, a developer, a producer and supplier. Leveraging its ServiceNXT platform, Wipro will provide Managed Services for IT Infrastructure across Woodside's global portfolio, with a focus on the larger sites of Perth and Karratha in Australia. The engagement includes delivering infrastructure services to offshore maritime facilities and potential exploration sites. Read More
KPIT Tech acquires strategic stake in Automotive Engineering Services Company
KPIT Tech, product engineering and IT consulting partner to Automotive, Manufacturing and Energy companies, announced that it has completed an agreement for a strategic partnership in a Germany headquartered Engineering Services Company. The fixed consideration will be Euro 9.3 million. The total consideration will include additional variable consideration, which is based on achievement of certain financial parameters over the next 4 years. The strategic partner, MicroFuzzy, has over 20+ years of proven engineering expertise on Powertrain systems and Drivetrain Electronics. It has core expertise in the areas of Software development for E-Mobility, E/E Architecture, End to End Test and Validation solutions for powertrain components. Current Domain name industry in India stands at 4.9 million, says Zinnov
Zinnov, pointed out that the Domain name industry in India has grown by a CAGR of 11.9% during the period June 2013 - June 2016 as compared to 8.7% globally. As of June 2016, the industry count stood at 4.9 million in India and at 335 million globally. Over half (55%) of domain names registered in India are on .com domain extension, it read.
Demystifying the term, the study explained that a domain name identifies an IP address, while accessing a URL on the internet. Accordingly, domain names are key to doing any activity on the internet including search, navigation and transaction etc. The released Zinnov study is aimed at tracking the domain name industry in India around the growth of the internet and intends to present its key trends on an ongoing basis.
Detailing the findings, the launched report brought to light that 40% of the total registered domain names in India are used for creating a website; while 10-12% of them are used for professional emails. A share of 3-4% of the domains are utilized for creating mobile enabled websites. The study further noted that .com remains a clear market leader in Indian industry with over 55% share of the bought domains and 53% share of the websites. Additionally, as per the SMB survey conducted for the released Zinnov study, over 79% of the SMBs showed preference for .com over other TLDs. Read More

Europe India Foundation for Excellence ties up with Kohinoor Technical Institute
Europe India Foundation for Excellence (EIFE) got in association with Kohinoor Technical Institute (KTI) one of the largest vocational training institute in India, as its Principal Partner to impart skill training. KTI CEO & Director Sameer Joshi and Count Christopher de Breza, Founding Chairman, Europe India Foundation for Excellence (EIFE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This is going to be a flagship project between EIFE and KTI. Skill development is important in stimulating a sustainable development process to create a workforce empowered with the necessary and continuously upgraded skills and knowledge to gain access to employment. Palo Alto Networks automates Cloud Security Deployment on Amazon Web Services
Palo Alto Networks, the next-generation security company, announced the integration of its VM-Series virtualized next-generation firewalls with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Auto Scaling and Elastic Load Balancing (ELB). Using a combination of AWS Lambda, CloudFormation Templates, and Amazon CloudWatch services, along with bootstrapping and XML API automation features supported by the VM-Series, joint customers can now automatically scale the cyber breach prevention capabilities of the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform as their AWS workload demands fluctuate. Sophos appoints Joergen Jakobsen to lead Business Growth in Asia-Pacific and Japan Region

Worldwide server revenue declined 5.8% in Q3 FY16; Shipments were down 2.6%: Gartner
In the third quarter of 2016, worldwide server revenuedeclined 5.8% yoy, and shipments declined 2.6% from the third quarter of 2015, according to Gartner, Inc. Among the top five vendors, only Cisco increased revenue in the third quarter, while Huawei and Inspur Electronics saw growth in shipments. HPE, Dell and Lenovo all experienced declines in both server revenue and shipments.
"The server market was impacted during the third quarter of 2016 by generally conservative spending plans globally. This was compounded by the ability of end users to leverage additional virtual machines on existing x86 servers (without new hardware) to meet their server application needs," said Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president at Gartner. "Server providers will need to reinvigorate and improve their value propositions to help end users justify server hardware replacements and growth, if they hope to drive the market back into a positive state."
All regions showed a decline in shipments except Eastern Europe, which posted growth of 0.9%. In terms of revenue, all regions except for Japan experienced a decline. Japan grew by 1.3%. Read More
Mobile device adoption in the workplace is not yet mature: Gartner
Mobile device adoption in the workplace is not yet mature, found a recent survey from Gartner, Inc. Although 80% of workers surveyed received one or more corporate-issued devices, desktops are still the most popular corporate device among businesses, with more than half of workers receiving corporate-issued desktop PCs. The survey findings are based on the 2016 Gartner Personal Technologies Study, which was conducted from June to August 2016 among 9,592 respondents in the US, the UK and Australia.
36% of workers received laptops, including convertible laptops. Adoption of convertible laptops as a corporate-issued device is still very low, but has been gradually increasing. Gartner analysts expect that more employees will receive convertible laptops in the next three years, driven by the Windows 10 refresh that can enhance the user experience with touch-based input. Adding desktops and laptops (including convertible laptops) together, 75% of workers will receive at least one PC-type device in mature countries. Read More
