Nifty Pharma skyrockets 1.5% on broad-based buying; Cipla, Aurobindo, Dr Reddy's in the fast lane

The Nifty Pharma was in the fast lane led by broad-based buying amid the tone of a bullish market on Thursday. Heavyweight stocks were in a sharp rally. India's vaccination drive continues to lift the sector.

At around 3.14 pm, the Nifty Pharma was trading at 14,466.45 up 146.60 points or 1.02%. The index has touched an intraday high and low of 14,500.40 and 14,364.00 respectively.

Cipla was the top gainer soaring 4% followed by Aurobindo Pharma and Dr Reddy's Lab surging more than 2% each.

Alkem Lab and Biocon jumped more than 1% each. Cadila Healthcare and Lupin zoomed 0.8% and 0.6% respectively.

Sun Pharma was marginally up.

On the other hand, Torrent Pharma and Divis Lab were top laggards of the day tumbling nearly 1% each.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in a significant achievement, India’s cumulative vaccination coverage crossed the 66 Crore landmark yesterday. With the administration of 81,09,244vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has surpassed the cumulative figure of 66.30Cr (66,30,37,334) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 69,60,983sessions.

The recovery of35,181 patients in the last 24 hours have increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,20,28,825.

47,092 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
