AADIT KUMAR PILLAI a Grade III student from Hiranandani Foundation School, Powai –Mumbai was declared the Winner of Category -1, MaRRS International Spelling Bee Championship held at NIMHANS Convention Center, Bangalore recently.
The route to the finals started with School Level, Inter School, State Level, National Level, International Prelims and then subsequently the International Orals which was the Grand Finale on 30th June 2013. The competition which was spread over 2 years involved participation from hundreds of schools across the country and over a thousand children participating for the championship.
There were over 160 kids from across the top schools in the country who qualified for the finals; the competition consisted of rigorous rounds in the finals consisting of Spell It, Word Origin, Pronunciation, and Synonyms, Antonyms.
More than 1000 children, studying in class 1-12 participated in the competition conducted on 29th and 3oth. They have all qualified from school level through the School, Interschool, State and National Championships to participate in the International Championship. Children from various schools spread across India, UAE and Kuwait will participate in the Championship.
AADIT KUMAR PILLAI was adjudged the International Champion 2011 -2012 and won the Grand Prize scholarship of USD 4444 along with a Grand Trophy.
8 Year old Aadit is a resident of Hiranandani Gardens, Powai and enjoys playing games , reading , learning music and swimming . He is very keen to understand technology and his ambition is to learn robotics and he would like to design and build state of the art fast cars in future.
He thanks the almighty God for their blessings, his grandparents for their encouragement and prayers, parents for their guidance, the school & MaRRS for their support in achieving this.
The I prize winner in all the categories won a scholarship of US$.4444/- the second and third prize winners won scholarships worth US$2222/- and US$1111/- respectively. Rank holders from 7th to 10th also won scholarships worth US$222/-. The Budding Stars (20 students in each category) were also rewarded with scholarship worth US$111/-
The best performer among the I Prize winners among all the categories will also win an additional scholarship of US$22222/-
MaRRS International Spelling Bee is the first and largest English Competition in Asia for school children. Conceived as a self motivated learning programme, it helps students to improve their communication skills and confidence by enriching their vocabulary. The various round of the contest asses their spelling, pronunciation and vocabulary skills.
The compulsion to excel comes from within, which is the sole intention of this self motivating programme, focusing on a self based learning.
The MaRRS International Spelling Bee is currently the largest English Spelling Competition in the world in terms of Scope and Participation. It is conducted in twenty six states in India and also UAE, Kuwait, South Africa and Belgium. Arrangements have already been made to launch this in Indonesia and Australia.
The competition was first started in 2003, and now over 3, 00,000 students participate in the competition annually.
The First International Championship was conducted in Mumbai in 2008. The Second International Championship was held in 2009, at two venues, Delhi and Dubai. The third International Competition was held in Malaysia in 2010. The last International Championship was held at Abu Dhabi.
