On Wednesday, the government made the decision to create expert groups to investigate the adoption of standard chargers for portable, mobile electronics.
"India may initially consider switching to two different charger kinds, including C type. A final decision would be made after considering the opinions of all parties in the difficult issue of switching to common chargers "Consumer Affairs Secretary was quoted by PTI.
Additionally, he stated that the interested parties want to talk more about switching to standard chargers while acknowledging e-waste problems.
"It's a complicated problem. India is involved in the production of chargers. Before making a final decision, we must consider the viewpoints of all parties, including those of the industry, the users, the manufacturers, and the environment "the Secretary stated.
To research the charging ports used by three different types of electronic devices–mobile and feature phones, laptops and iPads, and wearable electronics–separate expert groups will be formed.
The organizations will be informed this month, and they have two months to submit their proposals, he said.
The purpose of the conference with industry-specific organizations was to determine whether it would be possible to stop India from using numerous chargers, ease customer burdens, and prevent e-waste.
