Would retailer assisted e-Commerce find its next big market in India?
Globally companies across the spectrum are betting big on retail. E-commerce sales have increased ominously in recent years on account of rapid growth in online population and changes in consumer behaviour. While established markets are witnessing rapid expansion of e-commerce sales, currently accounting for 5-15 % of total retail sales, developing economies still continue to be more traditional in their consumer behaviour vis-a-vis e-commerce. Low internet and mobile penetration, expensive fixed and mobile broadband services and lack of supportive e-commerce ecosystems including infrastructures, distribution networks and regulatory framework seems to be apparent constraints in e-retail growth in such markets.
However, global e-commerce landscape is undergoing rapid transformation as developing markets including China, India and Indonesia are likely to experience far stronger growth in e-retail on back of digital revolution, rising younger population and emergence of modern e-commerce ecosystems seeking  to blend technology with traditional distribution networks for more effective and efficient e-retail. According to Gartner Inc., India is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in Asia-Pacific and is expected to reach $6 billion in 2015 from $3.5 billion market in 2014.
