Faxconn emerges as buyer for Nokia's Chennai plant
Foxconn, which makes iPhones and iPads for Apple and the Kindle for Amazon, has emerged as a possible buyer for Nokia's defunct Chennai factory, says media reports. Report also stated that largest electronics contract manufacturer plans to invest around $2 billion in India. A deal to sell the plant, to Foxconn will act as a boost for the government's Make in India initiative, says report.
Telecom Commission to take call on extended spectrum use by Airtel and Vodafone
Telecom Commission is likely to take a call on allowing extended use of spectrum by Airtel and Vodafone to avoid disruption in their services in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, besides deciding on base price for the next round of auction. DoT will propose Telecom Commission to extend use of spectrum by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone in Delhi till January 14 and till December 15 in Mumbai and Kolkata, report said. Airtel's permit in Delhi and Kolkata also expired on the same day.
RCOM clarifies reports on Ericsson deal
The Exchange has sought clarification from Reliance Communications Ltd with respect to news article appearing on Mint - December 6, 2014 titled "Rcom signs deal with Ericsson". Reliance Communications Ltd has clarified "As a routine ongoing business, Company has realigned some of its outsourced activities between existing vendors and signed managed service contract with Ericsson on a pan - India basis which did not constitute a reportable event."

Double digit growth in Telecom sector continues in July-Sep 2014: IIFL Research
Double digit industry growth continues; Bharti a better bet:
Wireless industry gross revenue growth remained above 10% for second quarter in a row though seasonality headwinds led to qoq revenue decline of 1.2%. Bharti GR declined 3.2% qoq leading to 64bps RMS loss, the most since Q2 FY12. Idea GR remained mostly flat qoq leading to now-persistent RMS gain even as Rcom continues to cede market share on lack of revenue growth. Overall, we remain prefer Bharti given a better spectrum portfolio with lower renewal risks while aggressive bidding in 900MHz and attendant higher leverage remain key barrier to Idea rerating.    
Industry gross revenues contract 1.2% qoq, up 10.7% yoy:
Q2 FY14 wireless industry gross revenues (ex-Loop and Videocon) declined 1.2% qoq, in line with sequential trends (Q2 FY14/13: -1.8%/-2% qoq) seen in the previous quarters as Q2 is typically the leanest quarter for the telcos; YoY revenue growth was steady at 10.7%. Idea yet again was the star performer with flat gross revenues vs ~3% qoq declines for Bharti and Vodafone. Regional operators Aircel and Telenor saw sharp qoq slowdown in gross revenues to 1.4% each from a ~5-13% range seen in the previous four quarters. Rcom gross revenue trajectory remain southward with fourth quarter of sequential decline while the PSU combine of BSNL+MTNL were the surprise gainers with 2.9% qoq rise in gross revenues. Bharti lost 64bps RMS while Idea revenue share inched up 19bps qoq to 17.3%. Amongst private players, Aircel gained the most RMS qoq after Idea and its RMS now stands close to ~6%.

YouTube launches buffer-free offline video experience for Indian users
YouTube launched an offline feature for YouTube in India as part of a larger initiative to make YouTube easier to enjoy on mobile devices, while lessening the burden of data for its growing base of mobile users. This is part of YouTube’s first release of its ad-supported offline feature on Android and iOS, which was announced earlier this year with the launch of Android One smartphones.
The new offline feature for the YouTube app lets people take videos offline, using WiFi or their data plans.  Once taken offline, the videos can be viewed without an Internet connection for up to 48 hours, allowing people to enjoy YouTube videos without worrying about slow connections. For videos where this feature is available, people can choose to add the video for offline viewing by tapping on the offline icon that sits under the video frame.
