The government declared on Tuesday (28-06-2022) that 15 businesses, with committed investments totaling Rs 1,368 crore, have been provisionally selected as recipients under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the white goods sector. These businesses include Adani Copper Tubes, LG Electronics, and Wipro Enterprises.
42 businesses, including Daikin, Panasonic, Syska, and Havells, with a pledged investment of Rs 4,614 crore, were chosen in November of last year.
After getting interested from a number of companies, the government reopened the application window for its Rs. 6,238 crore PLI program for air conditioners (ACs) and LED lights in March of this year in an effort to accommodate more enterprises. For this round, 19 firms submitted applications.
The commerce and industry ministry stated that 15 applicants with a pledged investment of Rs 1,368 crore had been provisionally chosen as beneficiaries after the 19 applications received in the second phase were evaluated. These include nine for the production of LED light components and six for the manufacture of AC components, both with committed investments totaling Rs 460 crore.
The announcement reads, “Over the next five years, these 15 firms will generate a total of Rs 25,583 crore and add 4,000 direct employment.” By creating a full component ecosystem for the nation’s LED and AC sectors, the PLI white goods initiative seeks to integrate India into global supply chains.
