Sensex, Nifty open higher; Infosys stock surges post Q1 numbers

On the sectoral front, the Nifty IT index has opened higher by 3% led by a strong surge in Infosys while other indices have opened flat.

Equity benchmark indices opened higher on Thursday led by gains in IT stocks. However, gains were capped by the decline in heavyweight index Reliance and HDFC twins.

At 9:18 AM, the Sensex was up 108 points at 36,160 and the Nifty gained 55 points to 10,674. The midcap index and smallcap index has opened higher by 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.

On the sectoral front, the Nifty IT index has opened higher by 3% led by a strong surge in Infosys while other indices have opened flat.

The market breadth stood in favour of the advances at 873 stocks opened with gains and 514 declined on the NSE.

Shares of Infosys surged 10% after the IT company on Thursday has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs4,272cr increasing by 12.4% from Rs3,802cr in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, Asian shares were trading mixed with the Japan’s Nikkei was down 0.4% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was flat.
